How to stop COVID ruining your Easter getaway

With COVID rates spiking, here are 5 tips to help avoid infection ahead of your Easter holiday abroad from Denis Kinane, Founding Scientist of COVID testing company Cignpost ExpressTest (https://www.expresstest.co.uk/).

  1. Prevention is best. Wash your hands regularly, practice social distancing where you can, open windows and wear a mask around others, especially indoors.

  2. If you are meeting up with friends, prioritise outdoor over indoor activity where possible and, where possible, take lateral flow tests prior to event.

  3. Responsible employers will play a part to protect your physical and emotional wellbeing if you are now returning to the office. If you worry about the picking up Covid at work, don’t be afraid to voice them so that managers can offer as much support as possible, and to facilitate measures to allay your concerns.

  4. Aim to reschedule at-risk occasions so they take place more than 10 days before your holiday, or move them to after you get back.

  5. Encourage friends, family and colleagues who show any symptoms to get tested immediately, so they can take necessary measures to reduce the risk to others.

The latest rules: The Government advises people who have COVID to stay at home to avoid passing on the virus. Should you pick up the infection, you can take a rapid lateral flow test 5 days after your symptoms started, followed by another on day 6. If both are negative, you can go back to your normal routine. Most travel insurance policies provide cover if you can’t go on holiday because of a COVID infection. Check your policy to be sure of the details.
